Momma Tried

It's a hard thing to do. A hard project to commit to. I didn't make the whole year like I did back in 2012, but hey....
Momma tried.

One.Hundred.Fifty.Four/Three.Six.Five

Spring Break officially begins for the Franks family tomorrow.
Ten days in Costa Rica.  I cannot wait!
However, this means my day looks something like this, as well as a 4 hour drive to get the dogs to Oma's house, so today's picture will not happen.
No worries, I can only imagine the number of pictures I'll have to weed through post vacation in order to choose each picture of the day!

One.Hundred.Fifty.Two/Three.Six.Five

It's normal to stand in your food while you eat, right?

Recommended by the checker at Petco to slow down this nut when she eats.  We tried the fancy trick bowls and she would step on the side to flip it over to get all the food out.  $5.00 for this gem and it worked perfectly.

One day she may kill me for taking and posting this picture, but seriously.....
where did the time go??

One.Hundred.Fifty/Three.Six.Five

The look of 'innocence'.
As painful as a puppy is, I do love having a Ridgeback in the house again.

One.Hundred.Forty.Six/Three.Six.Five

The rest of this week will be filled with more from yesterday's performance.  Too many great shots not to share.
(And the fact that my daily picture taking routine has been a bit hit or miss lately.
Just. Can't. Seem. To. Get. It. All. Done.)

One.Hundred.Forty.Five/Three.Six.Five

Today was her first solo performance as part of her Aerial Performance Troupe.
Hanging, dropping and spinning over concrete - with just a single mat below - hmmmm....
Nevertheless, she impressed the masses along with her mom - and gave me the opportunity to photograph up close and personal!

Our annual Mardi Gras parade celebration in Port Arthur.
Her creations get bigger and better every year.

One.Hundred.Thirty.Seven/Three.Six.Five

It's a Monday.
It's a school holiday.
It's been raining ALL day long.
It's absolutely NECESSARY.

One.Hundred.Thirty.Six/Three.Six.Five

Taken a couple weeks ago, I kept it handy because I loved the shot.
He has had to find his place and comfort zone with his new sister in the mix - but he will forever be one of the best dogs we have ever owned.
Sweet, nervous, timid, and a ball of curls, he is our Alf the Rescue Dog!

Sometimes an afternoon with your sister combining drinks and lunch at Perry's is very much needed.

It's someone's first trip to meet Dr. Dunn at Foster Creek.  She's our very favorite vet in the whole world, Whitley just doesn't know it yet.  Let's just pray we don't have to see her quite as often as George did.

I got to photograph a fellow coworker this week and help her make a huge announcement to the world!  Congrats to Alyssa & Tyler!

One.Hundred.Thirty.One/Three.Six.Five

Valentine's Day isn't really an important day in our house.  I always get the girls a little something, but really, showing your love on all the other days of the year seems more important in my eyes.
Regardless, they are my sweet Valentines - and the fact that they actually got along for a few minutes....is a gift in itself.  They really do love each other, I know it.  :-)

One.Hundred.Twenty.Nine/Three.Six.Five

This girl.
She's has had a big week.  Two different tryouts - one for the Performance Troup at Aerial Silks and one for the Theatre 3M class for next year (combo of 7th & 8th graders Musical Production).
She worked her tail off to choreograph her own routine for silks and this was her "circus" costume for the tryouts.  She was singled out following the tryouts for her "performance ready" routine and told that she would be the first athlete to be brought onto the performance troup.
And yes, she is also one of the 30 kids to make the unique theatre class for the next school year.
So proud.
Continue to dream big, beautiful girl!

*Side note:  I am currently in catch up mode.  Two weeks behind - and only a few actual pictures taken with my camera - most of the daily pics will be taken from cell phone pictures.  Not the best quality and definitely not the most exciting - but I'm not ready to quit this project!*

One.Hundred.Twenty.Seven/Three.Six.Five

He still surprises me after 16+ years.
His romantic gestures always come at the most unexpected times, but I have to say, over the years he has only gotten better.  I know how much I am loved and I'm not sure it gets much better than that.

One.Hundred.Twenty.Five/Three.Six.Five

Don't let the sunny weather and summer attire fool you.
Her cough sounds awful and she's got a head cold and feeling bleh.

One.Hundred.Twenty.Four/Three.Six.Five

There have been a lot of people complaining about the summer-winter weather we've been having all week.  Me?  I LOVE IT.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy cold weather, Uggs, sweaters, a warm fireplace.  But low 80's and sunshine?  There is a reason people in San Diego are so content and happy.
I've been taking advantage of the sunshine on my days off and working in our backyard to get the last 2 years of neglect cleaned up.  Today, was all about pressure washing, moving furniture, and wiping away the grime and dirt.
I may have also had the help of a 12 week old Ridgeback, some Hunter boots, a rescue dog named Alf, and Keith Urban.
It was a good day.

Knowing you have Girl Scout cookies as your reward for completing your homework, makes the entire process just a little bit easier to tackle.

One.Hundred.Twenty.Two/Three.Six.Five

I've really stepped back from the business side of photography.  There are many reasons for this, one of them being that sometimes the 'business' can get in the way of the pure love of the hobby - and it begins to make you resent the actual thing you once loved.  In my eyes, when/if this happens that means it is time to take a step back and reassess - hence my Three.Six.Five.
With this being said, there are certain times that when it is asked that I capture a moment for a certain person or family, the answer is a definite OF COURSE.  This was one of those instances.
The fact that this not-so-little beautiful girl is turning 13....the fact that she is my God-daughter....the fact that I've known her mom since she was that same age (and the really odd fact that I felt like I was looking at her Mom through my lens 20-something years ago)....all makes continuing to capture the big moments in their lives that much more meaningful.  I am so proud of the girl she has become and so proud of her Mom for doing such an unbelievable job at being her Mom.
To pick just one (or even two) from this amazing session was near impossible.  So, even though these are two of my favorites, there are so many more.
Happy Birthday Kylenn!!

One.Hundred.Twenty.One/Three.Six.Five

Games are a big deal to our family and an important piece to our family 'togetherness'.  This past Christmas a new game was introduced that we have become somewhat obsessed with - Codenames.  So when Dad was gone for Superbowl fun, and Cheryl joined for a girls' night at home - Codenames was just what the evening had in store.

Team spirit day in honor of the Superbowl this weekend.
Pro-teams, shmo-teams...
This girl knows where her loyalties lie.

Be Awesom(e).
It's a rule in this household.
Follow it or leave.

(Oh, and I do love us.)

One.Hundred.Sixteen/Three.Six.Five

Crazy Hair Day.
It's not our first rodeo.  However, being seriously sleep deprived, on top of having ONE night's notice, my creative juices were lacking.  Good thing this girl doesn't really care, as long is it has lots of color and lots of wire.

Mission accomplished.

One.Hundred.Fifteen/Three.Six.Five

What a face.
I pray she is a positive addition to our family.
Currently, Alf would 110% disagree.

One.Hundred.Fourteen/Three.Six.Five

This weekend is all about this little one.
She's the new addition to our family.
We love our dogs.
We love our Ridgebacks.
We felt it was time to make the jump.
I may question my sanity every day for the next year.

Meet Whitley Bay Franks.
10 weeks. 10 pounds.

One.Hundred.Eleven/Three.Six.Five

A girl and her freckles.
They never get old in her mother's eyes.

I can't look at this face without praying and hoping that I just do right by her.
Raise her right.  Raise her strong.  Raise her so that she never questions my love.

"A face without freckles is like a night sky without stars."

One.Hundred.Ten/Three.Six.Five

Her cooking skills are improving every week.
Her recipe of choice this week was these homemade Raspberry Tarts.  (Tart was even from scratch.)
Can't say it was the quickest of desserts to make, however, I can say it was one of the BEST desserts to make.  They were absolutely delicious!!
I have a feeling she will be making this one again.
